Hearts locked in Love

As we were walking back home, we crossed over the Seine River on a foot bridge by the Louvre.  On the fence railing along the bridge there were hundreds of locks.

We investigated and found that each one had the names of two lovers inscribed with a date.  We assume that on special occasion, perhaps an engagement or anniversary, the two make a wish to stay together and place these locks on this bridge, to symbolize that their hearts will forever be locked in love, like ours.
